Wine of the Day: 2013 Freemark Abbey Fiftieth Reserve Red Blend
We got this one for Super Bowl 50. Freemark Abbey, one of the oldest Napa wineries dates back over 125yrs. Fiftieth Reserve is the first and only commemorative Super Bowl 50 wine. Freemark Abbey along with one of the region’s leading winemakers, Ted Edwards, were selected to create a one-of-a-kind, limited release to honor the landmark NFL event.
This Fiftieth Reserve is a 2013 Napa Valley Bordeaux-style red wine, sourced from pedigreed single vineyard sites from the venerable Spring Mountain. It is an awesome blend of 67% Merlot, 14.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 5.7% Petit Verdot. There’s a black cherry nose. There is the taste of black plum, cherry, light spice, oak and wood chips and pepper. This is an extremely smooth wine that is well structured. This is a red wine that you can drink all night.
