Aldo B: Rugged and Soulful
Ten years is a long time. A very long time. That is how long it took for RnB singer, Aldo B., to create his freshman album, 27 Love Vol 1. Though it took an incredibly long time, we believe that the dedication has paid off.
“This album was inspired by all of the years that I wanted to play all of the rhythm section instruments and to be the lead singer of my own band,” says Aldo B. “It would have been ten years since I wrote my first song. It was long overdue to release what was already finished.”
The sound of the album is rugged and soulful. Aldo B produced this record with the hopes that the listener would understand his creative ideas. Aldo layered his vocals in a distinct triad to show how gospel harmonies have shaped his sound. This was created through his desire to produce, master, and mix the entire album
“In one word, the sound and feel of ’27 Love Vol 1′ is new,” states Aldo B. “Or at least, I can hope that it doesn’t sound like any that you’ve ever heard before. I did some YouTube research to learn how to master for radio, which added to my knowledge of mixing. I felt that everything would make more since to me if I made, conceived, birthed my first baby. I had to bring this project to life all of my own. The next record will have some mixing done by seasoned engineers.”
Doing it himself allowed Aldo to provide some songs with a sense of true authenticity.
“I recorded some of the vocals on my MacBook Pro microphone before I had purchased a condensed mic,” relates Aldo B. “The song, Dominique, is a perfect example, where you can hear the smoke detector beeping in the verses. That take was the best take so I used it.”
Every single song on this record has been inspired by life experiences, mostly including love, heart break, and break ups. ‘Dominique’ speaks of a relationship with a high school girlfriend.
“I made the track months before I wrote the lyrics but when I sat down with the music and a note pad, the old school hip hop groove made me think about telling a story about how Dominique was an unusually unique girl. I use my music to speak for me to get girls, like on tracks ‘Capri’. All of my selections on this album represents real experiences that describes experiences that would best be described over a beat and melody.”
