Wine of the Day: 2014 Lakeridge Reserve Petite Sirah

, by

The state of Florida is not the state that you think of when you think of wine. However, there are a few places that are trying to change that. One being Lakeridge Winery in Clermont, Florida. The Florida climate is much more suitable for the Muscadine grape. Currently at Lakeridge, they have about 75 acres of vineyards planted. Their Muscadine grape varieties are Noble (red) along with Welder and Carlos (bronze) that flourish in Florida because of their disease resistance and adaptability to our warm, humid climate.

One of their best wines is the Reserve Petite Sirah. Sought after for its uniqueness and beauty, this classic full bodied wine offers a dark ruby hue, rich fruit and smooth texture balanced with depth and complexity. Notes of blackberry and spice with hints of vanilla meld with fine tannins to create a wine that enhances flavorful food pairings. Production is usually limited. So, you will need to grab a bottle as soon as they release. We are going to have this wine for dinner tonight. We will serve it with a nice juicy sirloin steak.
